Crenshaw Sloshes To Lead

Compiled From Wire Services

Masters champion Ben Crenshaw and Robert Gamez shared the 36-hole lead as the rain-plagued Memorial golf tournament at Dublin, Ohio, dodged two weather systems and returned to schedule.

Crenshaw slogged and sloshed over the rain-sodden Muirfield Village Golf Club course to a 4-under-par 68 and completed two rounds in 9-under 135.

He was tied with Gamez, who was stranded on the course by darkness Thursday. Gamez finished off a first-round 68 in the morning, then turned around quickly for a second-round 67.

Kirk Triplett of Pullman shot a 75 and missed the cut at 4-over 148.

Dale Eggeling backed up a personal-best 63 in the first round with a 3-under 69 and stretched her lead to three strokes in the LPGA Oldsmobile Classic at East Lansing, Mich.

Eggeling has a two-round total of 12-under 132. Elaine Crosby, Kris Tschetter and Joan Pitcock are at 135. Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum, Idaho, shot a 5-under 67 and is at 140.

Dave Stockton shot a 6-under 66 for a one-shot lead over Bud Allin, Bruce Summerhays and Bob Rawlins after the first round of the Senior Bruno’s Memorial Classic at Birmingham, Ala.

Tiger Woods needs a phenomenal round to win the NCAA individual golf championship at Columbus, Ohio. His Stanford squad, however, is in good position to defend its team title.

Woods shot a 2-under 70 and his 54-hole total of 1-under 215 trailed Auburn’s Chip Spratlin by seven strokes going into today’s final round. Stanford and Texas are tied for the team lead.
