Husband Jailed After Alleged Assault, Weapon Incident
A verbal dispute between a Newman Lake couple escalated into a violent tirade Saturday that left their house damaged and the husband in jail.
Deputies said James W. Feistner, 40, pointed a gun at his wife. He was arrested and charged with felony second degree assault and obstructing a public servant.
The couple’s son stepped in between his mother and father, causing Feistner to lower the gun. The wife and son then fled the home and called 911.
Deputies recovered four handguns at the scene, one of which is believed to be the weapon used in the assault.
Two arrested on drug charges
Two men were arrested Wednesday on felony drug charges following a traffic stop in the Spokane Valley.
Dennis M. Richey, 25, of Soap Lake, Wash., and Scott M. Sullivan, 25, Medical Lake, were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after a search of their pickup revealed crack cocaine, said Sheriff’s Lt. David Wiyrick.
According to witnesses, Richey left the parking lot of an apartment complex at 17111 E. Sprague and headed eastbound on Sprague at speeds nearing 70 miles per hour.
Sheriff’s deputy Erick Nelson found Richey and Sullivan parked six blocks east.
After an argument at the complex, Richey, 25, got into his pickup and spun it around, spraying gravel around the parking lot.
Richey rammed the apartment before backing into another car.
Richey and Sullivan are being held at Spokane County Jail on $5,000 bond.
Richey was also cited for negligent driving, hit and run and third degree driving while license was suspended.
Vehicles struck by rocks
Two Valley men were arrested Monday for throwing rocks at two motorists as they passed a house at 12907 E. 8th.
Randy C. Nagy, 36, and Billie W. Phillips, 49, were feuding with the motorists, who they said were harassing them, according to Wiyrick.
Nagy and Phillips were booked into Spokane County Jail on charges of second degree malicious mischief.
The damage to the vehicles was estimated at $1,400.
Women arrested in refund scam
Two women were arrested on charges of third-degree theft Tuesday after attempting to return merchandise they had not paid for to the Shopko at 13414 E. Sprague.
Sherry Holt and Deloris Holt, both of 704 E. Nora, were arrested after gathering merchandise listed on a receipt they brought with them to the store. They requested a refund for the items, Wiyrick said.
Sherry Holt was charged with two additional counts of third degree theft for separate incidents at the Valley and South Hill Shopkos during the last two weeks and conspiracy to commit third degree theft.
Burglary suspect apprehended
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Spokane man on suspicion of third degree burglary following a break-in at a Valley home.
A woman and her friend returned to woman’s home in the 2900 block of N. Rivista Monday evening to find the door unlocked and property missing.
Deputies recovered the property in the possession of Michael P. Kilduff, 31, of 1413 E. Hartson.
Deputies expect to arrest another suspect in the burglary.
Grass fire ignites, reignites
A grass fire charred an acre of land near the Spokane River late last Sunday afternoon.
Firefighters contained the fire on the 25000 block of East River Road with shovels and believed they had it out.
However, they were called to the scene later that same evening when one stump reignited.
