Adams Strikes Soundtrack Gold

Knight-Ridder

If Bryan Adams wants to have a No. 1 song, all he has to do is record a movie soundtrack theme.

After all, he now has done it four times, thanks to this week’s ascension of “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” (from the recent hit film “Don Juan DeMarco”), which moved up from No. 2 to become the nation’s No. 1 pop single. The former champ, Montell Jordan’s “This Is How We Do It,” slipped to No. 2.

It all started for Adams back in 1985, when, as a successful Canadian rocker struggling to make a dent on the American charts, he recorded the power ballad “Heaven.” That sweet song, which was about the only memorable element in a very forgettable film titled “A Night in Heaven,” finally brought him his first American No. 1.
