Concorde Lands Safely After ‘Ingesting’ Geese

Compiled From Wire Services

An Air France Concorde arriving at Kennedy International Airport Saturday morning caught fire after two of its four engines sucked in a number of birds, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said.

No one was injured, the plane landed safely, and evacuation measures were not necessary, the spokesman, Mark Marchese, said.

There were 79 people aboard, Marchese said, when the plane “ingested a number of Canada geese” as it touched down at 8:55 a.m.

“Flames and smoke could be seen coming from the No. 3 and 4 engines beneath the right wing,” Marchese said. The plane was towed from the runway to its terminal.
