Colon Beats Elements, Pro-Am Field

Tom Colon, an Indian Canyon assistant pro, overcame rain, wind and cool temperatures Monday to put together a 3-under-par 67 at Twin Lakes Village Golf Course and post his second win of the Washington Trust Bank Pro-Am series.

Colon had nines of 34 and 33 for a one-shot margin over University of Idaho Golf Course pro Dan Koesters (33-35) and Valley View pro Mark Rohde (31-37).

Three others in the field of 55 pros tied for fourth with 69s - Chris Mitchell, Sun Dance; Bob Scott, Liberty Lake; and Chris Johnston, Painted Hills.

Kent Brown of Liberty Lake (35-35) and Sean Clements of Hangman Valley (34-36) shared medal honors for the 228 amateurs with even-par 70s.

George Winn of Harrington was low for the senior pros with a 37-34-71, while Kathy Gildersleeve-Jensen of The Fairways and Patti Marwuis, Painted Hills, had identical 38-38-76s in the women’s pro division.

Les Mueller of Chewelah was low senior amateur gross with a 40-37-77.

In the 0-8 handicap amateur net division, Steve McPherson of Ritzville had a 71-7 for a 64 and three-shot win. Dave Bache of Coeur d’Alene Golf Club (75-8) and Kyke Kadlec of Ritzville (73-6) shared second with 67s.

Ron Cluster of Painted Hills had a 76-12 to lead the 9-13 handicappers with a 64. Leon Lewis of Hidden Lakes (78-13) and Chris Sexton of Indian Canyon (76-11) shared second with 65s.

In the 14-and-over group, Sweede Foote of Hangman Valley had an 89-27 for a 62 that was adjusted to five under the course rating. Three others - John Franks of Chewelah (78-14), Gary Wright of Granveville (92-28) and Bob Anglin of Valley View (84-20) - had 64s.

A Chewelah fivesome led by pro Kim Walker captured the team best-ball competition with a 113, a stroke better than Rohde’s Valley View team.

Paired with Walker were Dave Pohto, Jerry Rowe, John Franks and Mueller.

Next Pro-Am is Monday at The Creek at Qualchan.
