The Slice Sometimes A Little Honesty Can Be Surprisingly Refreshing

Ken Martin saw a panhandler on Trent holding a sign that said it all: “Why lie? I need a cold beer.”

Another enduring swimsuit: “I bought a string bikini in Venice, Calif., in 1970 after I graduated from UCLA and it moved to Spokane with me in 1974,” wrote Liberty Lake’s Cheryl Nelson. “Now my 19-year-old daughter, Chelsea, has adopted it as her own special suit. It’s great that it has lasted this long, but what bothers me is my daughter out on the dock in such a skimpy swimsuit with all those guys hanging around her. No matter how hard we try to be ‘with it,’ we eventually become our parents.”

Lemonade entrepreneurs: Last summer Cassie Montgomery and her pal, Amanda, made $51.56 in one five-day stretch with a stand at 59th and Helena. Their secrets: Shake the lemonade well, have cups to go and offer deals to repeat customers.

And Charlotte Karling reported that organizers of last summer’s Logan Neighborhood Block Party gave away nearly 5,000 cups of lemonade.

Coins, crumbs, spouse: We asked about archaeological digs in the family couch. And Vicki Plastino sent this: “My husband IS an archaeologist and he treasures our couch because it has a tag in it which reads ‘Made to order for Mr. and Mrs. Gus Fix’, his grandparents, both deceased. Both couch and husband are still in excellent condition.”

The big issues: “Some questions about ‘Gilligan’s Island’ are impossible to answer, such as why the castaways were carrying so much luggage for a three-hour cruise, and how they could build such elaborate houses yet be unable to repair a simple hole in their boat.” - Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Agree or disagree: A fax to The Slice signed “A disgruntled ex-Californian & her husband” charged Spokane drivers do not understand the concept of merge lanes.
