Youths Aid Conviction Of Purse Snatcher

Compiled From Wire Services

Two children who helped catch a man who knocked down an elderly woman and stole her purse calmly testified against him Monday and he was convicted.

Shenell Pressley and Calvin Williams, both 12, were among five children who were in court as potential witnesses against Marcus E. Herbin, 29, who was convicted of robbery and maiming in the purse snatching.

About 15 children chased Herbin after they saw him attack Edna Moss on Feb. 19 on a street corner.

While some ran after Herbin and led police to where he was hiding, other children showed them where he had ditched Moss’ purse.

The 75-year-old woman, who suffered a broken hip when she was knocked down, also testified.
