Locals Lead All-Star Teams At State Baseball Series

Several local high school baseball players will be playing in the in All-State Baseball Series scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Eastmont High in Wenatchee.

Ferris pitcher Joe Miller was selected to the Class AAA-B Americans along with Reardan’s Carson Keeble who will play second base.

The Americans will play the Class AAA-B Nationals, which includes University High School’s Scott Asan at catcher and Brandon Svelmoe at shortstop.

For the Class AA-A Americans, East Valley outfielder Keith Osso will be the local representative while Lakeside pitcher Chevy Matthews will play for the Class AA-A Nationals.

Miller posted the lowest earnedrun average in the Greater Spokane League this season at 0.65.

Asan was third in the GSL with a .456 batting average and second in homers with four.

Svelmoe finished second in the GSL with a .462 batting average.

Osso led the Frontier League in batting at .574 and finished second in RBIs with 24.

Keeble compiled one of the lowest ERAs in the Bi-County League.He will try out for the college’s baseball team as well.

Vandals win final game

The University of Idaho Vandals pounded the Hungarian 22-and-under national team 85-53 in Budapest on Monday in the team’s final game of their European tour. Idaho finished the two-week tour with a 4-3 record.
