Compiled From Wire Services

A man wielding a screwdriver stabbed two people at a state welfare office Tuesday and was shot and wounded by a security guard.

The attacker screamed, “I’m a player! I’m a player! And this is what a player does!” said a witness, 17-year-old Angela Tishler.

The stabbing victims, Derong Stephenson, 33, and Terrance Dyess, 28, were treated and released. Carl Florence, 38, underwent surgery at St. John’s Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition. Police said he will be charged with attempted murder.

Police said they did not know the motive for the attack.
