Next Up For Hugh: Four Washings And A Blow-Dry

Compiled By Staff Writer Rick Bo

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” made Hugh Grant a bigger name around Hollywood, but nowhere near as big as his hair.

Tom Arnold, his co-star in the upcoming “Nine Months,” tells Premiere magazine that Grant’s scalp stole the show.

“There was a chain of command, like the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who were in charge of Hugh’s hair,” Arnold says. “They would all decide if it was moppy enough. It was quite a procedure. I think it slowed down the movie about two or three weeks.”

Adds director Chris Columbus: “You have to go up to the guy and say, ‘Hugh, I hate to tell you this, but we have to do that scene again, not because of your performance, but because we want to match the hair.’ His hair is a continuity nightmare. It’s got a life of its own.”

Loose talk

Ivana Trump, in her new advice column in The Globe, responding to a woman who says she intimidates men: “I know exactly how you feel. I’m an attractive career woman and a celebrity to boot!”

Speaking of princes, Prince Charles, the first member of the British royal family to make an official visit to Ireland since its independence in 1922, says it would be “marvelous” if his mother the queen made the trip, too. Said Charles: “The most important thing is to increase the reconciliation between everybody.”

And she enjoyed meeting someone peasant

An improperly parked Princess Diana talked her way out of a ticket the other day in London, explaining she was finishing a cup of coffee with a friend. “She was very nice,” the officer told the Brit tabloid Today. “It is a change to meet someone pleasant.”

Well, you have to give her credit for trying

The former Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, best known lately for her financial woes, has been talking to studio chiefs in Los Angeles about coproducing a film covering the early life of Queen Victoria.

There comes a time to rest those poor dogs

Queen Elizabeth II’s mum, the Queen Mother, still exercises her four beloved Corgis, although age has had its effects. “On occasion she does go round the garden in a golf buggy,” a Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said. “At 95, that’s fairly reasonable.”

Is it a story problem, or just multiple choice?

Turning to American royalty, Larry King in his USA Today column Monday tried to defuse the media hype about his marital history. Wrote King: “In the last 25 years I have only been married twice. And in the second of these marriages I never lived with my wife. In fact, I never lived with anyone except three of the four people I married.”
