Merit Scholarships Awarded To Area Students

The following students are among approximately 2,500 Merit Scholarship award recipients chosen by officials of the sponsoring college/university from finalists that will attend that institution.

In Idaho:

Priest River: Mary Suenkel, Priest River Lamanna High School, Gonzaga University.

In Montana:

Kalispell: Katie Gilsoul, Flathead High School, University of Montana.

Missoula: Nathan Baker, Big Sky High School, Utah State University.

In Washington:

Kennewick: Jessica Mucha, Kamiakin High School, Lewis and Clark College, Portland.

Pullman: Kristofer Barber, Pullman High School, Rice University, Houston; and Tyson Bickle, Pullman High School, Gonzaga University.

Richland: Diane Fruchter, Richland High School, University of Washington.

Spokane: Michelle Flynn, Lewis and Clark High School, Washington State University; Meredith Giesa, Gonzaga Preparatory School, Whitman College, Walla Walla; Daniel Meyers, Gonzaga Preparatory School, Whitman College; Jared Mott, Central Valley High School, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah; Charles Nelson, Lewis and Clark High School, University of Washington; Sarah Stucky, Gonzaga Preparatory School, MacAlester College, St. Paul, Minn.; and Christopher Volz, Ferris High School, Santa Clara University, Calif.

Walla Walla: Hamish Eisler, Walla Walla High School, Harvey Mudd College, Claremont, Calif.

Dawn Cohen, Spokane, recently received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti.

Anthony “Tony” Kozlowski, a senior in the Washington State University College of Pharmacy, was elected president of the Rho Chi pharmacy honors fraternity for the 1995-96 academic year.

Angela Schifferns and Jeffrey Thielman are charter members of the Gonzaga University petitioning chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the national accounting honor society.

Ruth and Kevin Boden have been accepted at the Meadowmount School of Music in New York for the seven-week summer session. They received over half of their tuition in scholarships.

Ruth is a junior at East Valley High School and maintains a 4.0 GPA. She is a cellist. Kevin is a freshman at EVHS and also maintains a 4.0 GPA. He is a violist. They play with the Spokane Youth Symphony, the 1995 All Northwest Honor Orchestra, and the Spokane Youth Symphony String Quartet. They are the children of Peter and Jeanette Boden.
