Miami Rebuffs Suggestion

Compiled From Wire Services

University of Miami President Edward Foote has no plans to disband the school’s scandal-plagued football program, a move suggested by a Sports Illustrated story.

The cover story in the magazine’s June 12th issue, crafted as an open letter to Foote, asks him to fire athletic director Paul Dee and suspend the football program for a “decent interval.”

SI cites failures of the school’s drug policy, allegations that rap star Luther Campbell and former Hurricanes players were involved in a pay-for-play scheme and details charges of financial-aid fraud involving football players.

Las Vegas won a $1 million-a-year bid to host the Western Athletic Conference’s championship football game.
