Textured Paper Great For Hiding Surface Flaws

Small cracks in the walls and ceilings aren’t limited to older homes. When a house that’s only a couple of years old settles, small cracks can appear - and annoy the homeowner.

Now there’s a relatively easy way to cover cracks, modest holes and imperfections in the walls and ceilings of your house. A new wall covering, by Anaglypta, covers the surface and the big bonus is, it can be painted - repeatedly. Most patters are embossed and there’s even a pattern that replicates a tin ceiling. Decorative borders and dados are also available. The wall covering runs $12 to $24 a roll. For information about Anaglypta, call (800) 762-3267.

Help available: Mark your calendar if you need help installing a sprinkler system, rescreening windows, installing security lighting or building a fence. These and other subjects will be covered in a series of free how-to workshops at HomeBase stores. The hour-long sessions will be June 24-25 and July 1-2. For a schedule, contact the HomeBase nearest you.

Make a documentary: The International Society of Arboriculture checked in to remind homeowners of the value of their landscaping, especially in light of recent severe storms throughout the country.

Society officials say most homeowners don’t realize their trees and other plants are tangible assets and that compensation can be claimed on trees and shrubs that are casualties of storms through the Internal Revenue Service, and in some cases, through homeowner’s insurance policies.

Contact your insurance agent, or the IRS for specifics.

What to wear? Shorts and a T-shirt? The decision’s not as simple as we all might think. When working with pesticides or weed-and-feed, appropriate clothing for gardeners includes a long-sleeved shirt and long pants as well as socks, shoes and water-resistant gloves. Other tips for gardeners are available in a free brochure from Ortho, available by calling (800) 225-2883.
