Whitworth Chooses Two Coaches, Information Director

 

Whitworth College has hired two new coaches and a new sports information director for the 1995-96 school year.

Athletic director Kevin Bryant announced that Steve Simmons will become men’s soccer coach and that Pat Dreves will coach men’s tennis. In addition, Steve Flegel, an assistant swimming coach for almost three years, will take up new duties as the sports information director.

Simmons has been the assistant soccer coach at Gonzaga University after spending four years as an assistant at Concordia College in Portland. The two-time All-NAIA District 2 player, succeeds Einar Thorarinsson, who compiled a 123-49-13 record in nine seasons.

Dreves was an All-NCIC tennis player and served as team captain for the Pirates before completing his collegiate career last month. He lettered twice and finished third at number one singles in the 1995 conference tournament.

Dreves takes over from Bryant.

Flegel earned his bachelor’s degree from Whitworth in 1989. He will receive a master’s degree in teaching in August.
