Hand Lost During Game Can’t Be Reattached

Doctors failed to reattach the hand that got torn off a man’s wrist in a tug-of-war game at a company picnic.

Stanley Dewane Farris, 21, was in fair condition Saturday at Erlanger Medical Center, said spokeswoman Doris Chastain. She said “the injury was too severe” Friday to save the hand.

Farris had rope wrapped around his wrist during the tug-of-war between teams of 25 adults. A hard tug by the other team severed his hand. Farris was his team’s anchor, last in the line.

Paramedics stopped the bleeding and he was rushed to Erlanger. The severed hand was put on ice immediately, Chastain said.
