Compiled From Wire Services

Larry Pearson celebrated his 200th start on the series with a victory in the Carolina Pride-Red Dog 250 NASCAR Busch Grand National stock car race at Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway.

Pearson, of Spartanburg, S.C., took the lead on lap 221 with a quick pit stop under green-flag conditions. He led the rest of the way in the 250-lap event, finishing 7.54 seconds ahead of the Chevrolet of Jason Keller.

Spokane’s Chad Little finished 32nd, 46 laps off the pace.

Robby Gordon crashed again, failed to improve on his opening-round speed but still hung onto the pole position for today’s Detroit Grand Prix.

Gordon, who took the provisional pole on Friday with a fast lap of 108.318 mph after crashing hard during the opening practice, spun out again and took fourtime Detroit pole-winner Michael Andretti with him. Both drivers were uninjured.

Michael Schumacher posted the best time for the second consecutive day of qualifying, but it was his Friday lap time of 1 minute, 27.661 seconds - 112.795 mph - that officially earned him the pole for today’s Formula One Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

Scott Kalitta covered the quartermile distance in 4.743 seconds at 306.12 mph, both track records, to lead Top Fuel qualifying for the Oldsmobile Springnationals at National Trail Raceway in Kirkersville, Ohio.

John Force and Warren Johnson led the Funny Car and Pro Stock divisions, respectively, into today’s finals.
