Fighting Heavy On Bosnia Fronts

With the U.N. peacekeeping mission increasingly helpless, the Bosnian government and its Croat allies mapped out a joint battle plan and fought Serbs on several fronts Sunday.

French President Jacques Chirac received assurances Sunday from Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic that the remaining 146 hostages would be freed “very soon,” according to Chirac’s spokeswoman, Catherine Colonna.

Heavy fighting was reported Sunday around the eastern Muslim enclave of Gorazde, in the northwestern Bihac pocket and in the northeast around a key Serb supply route. The government army claimed it made gains on the Majevica hills south of the Serb corridor.

Bosnian radio reported four people, two women and two children, were killed in shelling of a Sarajevo suburb Sunday evening.
