Bosnian Serbs Will Escort Aid Into Sarajevo

Washington Post

The first aid shipment in three weeks reached Sarajevo Monday - brought by drivers from the Muslimled government, not the United Nations - as plans were announced for the next U.N. aid convoy to arrive under escort by Bosnian Serb police.

The delivery Monday and arrangements for today’s convoy underscored the sidelining of the 23,000-strong U.N. military force in the face of Bosnian Serbs’ refusal to release 144 U.N. peacekeepers.

One U.N. officer, noting the Bosnian Serb police are famous for hijacking U.N. vehicles, said plans for them to escort aid convoys to the Muslimheld Bosnian capital - which is under Serb siege - have brought the situation to a “critical mass of absurdity.”
