Bobcat Not Deemed Threat To Public

From Staff And Wire Reports

A skittish bobcat named Reddie remains loose at Cat Tales, a private zoo in north Spokane, but poses no threat to visitors, an official said.

The 2-year-old, 18-pound cat wiggled out of his pen June 6 and has been hiding on the four-acre compound ever since, said zoo Executive Director Mike Wyche.

Efforts to lure the animal into a metal cage lined with his favorite food - chicken necks - have failed.

Although the animal has access to visitors, “He’s terrified of humans, Wyche said. “If I thought there was a risk to the public, I would shut the place down.”

Wyche said he’s waiting Reddie out because he doesn’t want to traumatize the frightened cat by tranquilizing him or taking him by force.

The zoo is located on U.S. Highway 2, six miles north of the Division Y.
