Get That Job Pronto With Speedy

SPEEDY, designed for youth from low-income families, can be a great way to get out of a stuck position.

The Summer Program for the Employment and Educational Development of Youth will once again offer area youth ages 14-21 the opportunity to work and/or go to school (and get paid for both) during the summer months.

SPEEDY develops several hundred full- and part-time jobs with public and non-profit employers throughout the county, affording valuable work experience through on-the-job training. The program also will assist in finding permanent jobs or additional training for youth in need of these services. You must meet the federal income guidelines to be a participant.

The educational assistance program through SPEEDY offers summer school classes, special remediation class work, GED or high school completion classes. Some students are also able to couple work and school.

Other services the program offers are employment readiness and job search seminars, young moms support group and assistance with transportation, child care and other costs related to completing education and employment training.

Students and employees involved with the SPEEDY program earn around $4.90 per hour while they work and go to school. SPEEDY processes applications on a firstcome, first-served basis.
