Sovde A Finalist For Puyallup Position

Dick Sovde, superintendent of Central Valley School District, is one of three finalists for the superintendent’s job in the Puyallup School District, south of Seattle.

Sovde, who has been with CV since 1986, said he’s not looking to leave the Valley but said the Puyallup job is attractive.

“It’s a good fit,” Sovde said. The Puyallup district of 17,000 students would be a significant new challenge, he added.

The other two finalists are: Larry Nyland, an associate professor and director of the Superintendent Preparation Program at Seattle Pacific University and former superintendent of the Pasco School District; and James Shoemake, who has been superintendent of Mukilteo School District in Everett since 1987.

Nyland also was a candidate for the superintendent of the Central Valley School District in 1986 when Sovde was chosen.
