The Slice Thanks For Helping Out - You’re A Good Sport, Barbara

Last Saturday, the folks who handle our “Best Bets” box touted a festival at the Sons of Norway.

There was one problem. We printed Barbara Cunningham’s phone number instead of the lodge’s.

But after receiving a few calls, Cunningham figured out what was happening. So she phoned the Sons of Norway, got the details about the festival and proceeded to pass along the information to readers mistakenly dialing her home.

Is that being a good sport or what?

Even a few of Cunningham’s friends noticed the mix-up. One called to rib her, asking if she was going to be preparing lutefisk.

“Not likely,” she answered. “I’m Polish.”

Barbara, The Slice salutes you.

How about a credit card: Michele Newell was getting into her car after a night class in downtown Spokane when a panhandler approached. He asked for 37 cents. She told him she didn’t have any change, which was true. The panhandler replied, “Well, I take checks.”

Try to resist: The urge to determine self-worth on the basis of ability to open jars with stuck lids.

Teenage girl talking to a friend: “You thought that was Stephanie? That’s a guy!” - overheard on Sherman Avenue in Coeur d’Alene

Fill in the blank: “Given the opportunity to —- in the middle of the day, most people will do it.”

If you recognized that as a press release from the Sleep Research Society and said that the answer is “nap,” you are correct.

Don Bender asks: “How can you tell if you are sweating when you are swimming?”

Warm-up questions: What Inland Northwest family has the most competitive tabletop slot-hockey championships? Has any kid ever complained about schools sticking to a dated agrarian schedule that allows for long summer vacations?

Today’s Slice question: Inasmuch as Father’s Day started here, aren’t Spokane dads entitled to extra loot?
