Two Were Candidates For UW Presidency

From Staff And Wire Reports

High-ranking academics at the universities of Michigan and Iowa were finalists for president of the University of Washington, The Seattle Times reported.

Citing an unnamed regent, the article published Saturday identified them as Edie Goldenberg, dean of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at Michigan, and Iowa Provost Peter Nathan. Neither would comment.

Richard McCormick, provost of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was chosen last week to succeed William Gerberding as University of Washington president. Gerberding is retiring from the post Sept. 1.
