Walkout That Stalled Coliseum Work Settled

From Staff And Wire Reports

A labor dispute at the $73.4 million rebuilding project for the Seattle Center Coliseum has been resolved, after hundreds of union construction workers walked out.

About 250 union workers said they were angered by the use of nonunion labor and said they left their jobs Friday to protect union jobs.

After an agreement was reached, it appeared that all workers would return to work Monday morning, said Terry McLaughlin, deputy director of the Seattle Center. The shutdown meant the project lost a day and a half of work, including Saturday, McLaughlin said.

The settlement will have the non union seat installers become members of the union for as long as they work on the Coliseum.
