Huggins Rejects Heat, Announces Decision To Remain At Cincinnati
Bob Huggins withdrew as a candidate for the Miami Heat coaching job Sunday, saying he prefers to stay at the University of Cincinnati.
“If I never have another chance to coach in the NBA, I can live with it,” he said at a news conference. “What I am committed to right now is making this the best basketball program I can make it.”
Huggins said the Heat never offered him a contract, contrary to published reports.
Miami is looking to replace Alvin Gentry, who was fired last month. There have been reports that Pat Riley, who resigned as the New York Knicks’ coach, was under consideration, but the Knicks have not released him from the final year of his contract.
