Schultz Usoc Favorite

Compiled From Wire Services

Former NCAA executive director Dick Schultz is expected to be chosen as the U.S. Olympic Committee’s executive director Friday after a special meeting in Boston. Schultz, who held the NCAA post for six years before resigning in May 1993, is the most prominent of the five candidates selected by a special search committee that considered dozens of names.

The other contenders are former Continental Basketball Association commissioner Terdema Ussery (now a Nike executive), former U.S. Skiing and USA Gymnastics executive director Mike Jacki, former Michigan State athletic director Merrily Dean Baker and Colorado Springs schools superintendent Kenneth Burnley.

Harvey Schiller, who’d held the USOC job since 1990, left last October to become president of Turner Sports.
