State Plans Study Of Newman Lake Area

From Staff And Wire Reports

State environmental regulators tonight will unveil plans for a watershed analysis in the Newman Lake area.

The four-month study will cover 30,000 acres in and around Thompson Creek, an area primarily used for logging, agriculture and recreation but increasingly being converted to home sites.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources picked Thompson Creek for its first comprehensive study in Spokane County because of declining water quality.

About 70 percent of the Newman Lake shoreline has been developed with homes and cabins, while the surrounding area long has been the site of industrial activities.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Tri Community Grange, one block north of Trent on Starr Road. , DataTimes
