Loose talk

Michelle Pfeiffer, on life and love (in Cosmopolitan magazine): “I don’t think people should live together for the rest of their lives, suppressing frustrations. Fidelity is possible. Anything is possible, if you’re stubborn and strong. But it’s not that important.”

Actor-cum-boxer Mickey Rourke has added another pugilistic triumph to his record - his criminal record, that is.

Rourke is being investigated for battery after allegedly beating up fellow thespian Jeff Kober (“China Beach,” “Tank Girl”) last weekend.

Witnesses said the Mick confronted Kober in a Hollywood gym after he struck up a conversation with Rourke’s pet punching bag, Carre Otis, followed him outside and attacked him as he tried to walk away.

Kober’s girlfriend, Kelly Cutrone, said a Rourke emissary showed up at the hospital later and hinted at a payoff, saying: “Carre and Mickey would like to offer condolences.”

Responded Cutrone: “I don’t care if (Rourke’s) walking around with $10,000 in his pocket, he’s not going to buy his way out of this one.”

Another year’s worth of water under the bridge

Meryl Streep turns 46 today.

Hit a defenseless woman? Why, you yellow …

Actress Halle Berry, wife of Atlanta Braves slugger David Justice, is sporting a black eye following an altercation with a cabbie in Australia. When she accused the driver of detouring to run up the fee and refused to pay him, he popped her.

We’re still betting it’s all just an illusion

Why haven’t Claudia Schiffer and David Copperfield tied the knot yet? For one thing, they can’t decide where to live (he wants Vegas, she favors NYC). Besides, a Copperfield spokesperson told USA Today: “Their wedding will take a lot of planning. I mean, I’ve seen brochures of castles. And they are both just too busy to plan it right now.”

Where there’s a Will, and Harry, there’s a way

Prince Charles and Princess Diana have decided not to divorce for the sake of their boys, a British newspaper reports. Quoting “royal insiders,” the Sunday Express says that, while it’s much too soon to talk reconciliation, “there has certainly been a very definite change of attitude on both sides.”

Even at Buckingham, there are only a few dips

On a sadder note, venerable Brit romance writer Dame Barbara Cartland, 93, who happens to be Di’s step-grandmother, is auctioning off her jewelry collection because “there simply aren’t the grand parties there used to be.”

But his darkest nights were with King Richard

Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was knighted Tuesday by Queen Elizabeth II for his achievements in foreign affairs, becoming an Honorary Knight Commander of the Most Honorable Order of St. Michael and St. George.
