District Attorney Greg Valdez said he has appointed a prosecutor and staff to look into allegations of forgery involving New Mexico State University basketball players’ exams in correspondence courses.

The NCAA also has been investigating such allegations at New Mexico State, and Valdez said a federal probe also should be considered.

He confirmed forgery is the focus of his probe, but said a key question is what constitutes forgery.<
