Terry Helps State Team To Big Sweep Hutchens Guides A-B State To Split; Floyd Of S-H Honored As Top Player

Jason Terry, Franklin High’s Class AA state player of the year, scored 21 points Thursday to lead the state team to a 133-99 victory over the city squad in a Class AAA-AA allstate boys game at Seattle Pacific University.

Terry, bound for the University of Arizona, scored 27 on Wednesday in the opening all-state game at Gonzaga University as the state cruised to a 139-121 victory.

Terry was voted player of the games, based on practice sessions and both games.

Eight other state players hit double figures, including Donald Watts (Lake Washington) and Brandon Rinta (Chehalis) with 14 each.

Terik Brown of Mercer Island had a big finish for the city squad. He scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half. The Oregon-bound Brown scored nine points in Wednesday’s game and was 2 of 9 from the field in the first half Thursday. He buried 4 of 8 field goals after the intermission, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Dane Looker of Puyallup, who has signed to play football at Western Washington University, was impressive with 16 points. Tyce Nasinec (Rogers of Puyallup) added 14 points and Emil Swain (Kent-Meridian) 13. Paul Bustrin of Evergreen-Vancouver scored two points after dropping in 25 on Wednesday.

A-B State 90, A-B City 80: Also at SPU, Will Hutchens of Dayton, the Class B player of the year, scored 22 to lead the state team to a 90-80 victory over the city squad in the Class A-B all-state game.

Hutchens had 19 points Wednesday, but it wasn’t enough as the city won the opener 108-95.

The state led 44-41 at halftime, then stretched out to a 14-point lead. The city got no closer than six the rest of the way.

Roberto Garza of Wapato and Bob Stewart of Blaine each scored 12 for the state squad and Adam Rapelje of Northwest Christian chipped in 10. Rob Tiegs of Garfield-Palouse paced the city team with 17 points, while Lynden Christian’s Mike Bos added 10.

Ryan Floyd of Sprague-Harrington was voted player of the game. Floyd, hoping to walk on at GU next fall, scored eight points Thursday after getting 17 on Wednesday.
