Spokane Athletic Supply Takes Command With Victory

Spokane Athletic Supply took command of the American Legion South Division Friday with a five-inning, 10-2 win over Global Federal Credit Union at Central Valley High.

Monte Morgan of SAS (6-1) pitched a two-hitter and struck out four, and Tony Paventy and Jeremy Nesbitt drove in two runs apiece. Andrew Larson had his second consecutive three-hit night for SAS.

Preston Ashe homered for GFCU (5-1).

Elsewhere, Steve Sander went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, and Andy Furlott scattered seven hits as Olympic Sports (5-1) defeated Kimmel 10-4 at Shadle Park’s Al K. Jackson Field.

Kevin May scored three times and Joe Jeffries twice for Olympic Sports, which stayed near the top of the North Division.

John Rappe was 2 for 3, with a double and run scored, and Braiden Freeman went 2 for 4 for Kimmel (1-3).

Steve Pipkin came within one out of a nohitter as the Merchants (2-3) defeated Washington Trust Bank 5-4 at Gonzaga University.

Paul Greis of WTB (0-4) singled to right with two out in the bottom of the seventh. Right fielder Bill Tincup, playing shallow, threw to first and nearly caught Greis.

Kyle LeGrant, Keith Osso and Pat Stookey had two hits apiece for the Merchants.

Summer Heat Tournament

Tucker Urdahl, relieving with two out and the bases loaded in the seventh, notched a strikeout to preserve Spokane Federal Credit Union’s 5-1 win over Hanford at Ephrata, Wash.
