A van apparently blew a tire before veering across a highway, hitting a car head-on and bursting into flames Friday. Five people were killed and one was critically injured, the California Highway Patrol said.
The van was traveling west on Highway 152 about 150 miles southeast of San Francisco when it veered across the center divider into eastbound traffic, CHP Officer Bob Arnold said.
Three of those killed were in the van and two were in the car. Investigators think the van blew a tire.
