Rodman Hearing Begins

Compiled From Wire Services

Dennis Rodman had unprotected sex with a former Atlanta Hawks cheerleader a day after a Detroit woman went to his home and told him he had given her genital herpes, a lawyer said in an Atlanta courtroom.

But an attorney representing the San Antonio Spurs star in a federal lawsuit brought by the Atlanta woman said there was no evidence Rodman has ever had a transmittable form of the incurable disease.

Lisa Beth Judd, 24, is suing Rodman for unspecified damages. She claims Rodman, with whom she had an on-andoff relationship since 1991, gave her herpes Jan. 14, 1993, when he came to Atlanta while playing for the Detroit Pistons.

Richard Hines, representing Rodman, told the jury there was no medical evidence the 26-year-old Detroit woman who accused Rodman of giving her herpes actually has the disease.

Pat Riley hired a lawyer the day he resigned as coach of the New York Knicks to handle a potential breach of contract suit, The New York Times reported.

Riley is attempting to invalidate the fifth and final year of his contract to free himself to coach next season without permission from the Knicks or compensation for his services.
