Suicide Assisted In ‘Mercy Clinic’

Compiled From Wire Services

Dr. Jack Kevorkian, using a rented building as a clinic for assisted suicide, helped a Missouri woman became the first to die at what his lawyer called a “mercy clinic.”

Attorney Geoffrey Fieger said that Erika Garcellano, 60, a Kansas City woman suffering from Lou Gehrig’s Disease, ended her life Monday in the presence of Kevorkian, two adult sons and Marjorie Jackson, a close friend.

The clinic is in Oakland County, where the physician lives and where most of the 24 suicides he has attended since 1990 have occurred.
