Dropped Gun Fires, Injuries Not Serious

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane woman was not seriously injured Tuesday when a gun she was carrying fell to the ground and discharged, police said.

The 46-year-old woman was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she was treated for a head injury, Spokane police said. Police refused to identify the woman.

A bullet traveled under the skin above her left eye and exited behind her left ear, according to police.

About 9 p.m. Tuesday, the woman and her husband went to their son’s home in the 1600 block of East 16th.

They were concerned about him because he’d talked of killing himself.

He wasn’t home when the couple arrived. But the woman found the gun, put it in a plastic sack and walked back to the car.

She was handing the sack to her husband when the gun fell to the ground and discharged.
