Merrill ‘Bus’ Chamberlain Jr. Mesa, Ariz.

Graveside service for Merrill Burton “Bus” Chamberlain Jr., 62, is planned for 2 p.m. today at the Spangle Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Chamberlain died Monday in Spokane while vacationing.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from Rogers High School.

He served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War.

In Spokane, he was an equipment salesman before moving to Arizona in 1980.

Mr. Chamberlain was a square dancer and square dance caller and also taught square dancing in Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Caryn Chamberlain Shively and Stacy Kutz, both of Seattle; one son, Craig Chamberlain of Seattle; two stepdaughters, Nancy Tipton of Yuma, Ariz., and Sherry Reid of Chandler, Ariz.; one stepson, Jeffrey Engle of Mesa; and 15 grandchildren.

Patricia Bates St. Maries

Service for Patricia Ann Bates, 56, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home, St. Maries, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bates, who was the co-founder of the country band “The Mavericks,” died Monday following an extended illness.

She was born in St. Maries and graduated from Kootenai High School where she received top honors.

In 1959 she moved to the family farm at Indian Springs, near St. Maries. She helped her husband farm.

She worked for First Security Bank from 1970 until her death.

Mrs. Bates and her husband were professional inspirational musicians. She enjoyed music, sewing, antiques and her family and friends.

She was a member of the St. Maries Eagles, the Indian Springs Community Club, the Harrison Grange and the You-Go, I-Go Club.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Karol Rooks.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Dean; two sons, Clint Bates of St. Maries and Tim Jeremias of California; a daughter, Deann Turcott of Hayden Lake; her parents, Ernie and Martha Balzaretti of Hayden Lake, Idaho; and nine grandchildren.

Jason Whicker Spokane

Service for Jason Whicker, 21, is set for 1 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Whicker, who was born in Spokane, died Friday while serving aboard a naval ship..

He was born in Spokane and graduated from Mead High School in 1992.

He entered the Navy in October 1993.

He is survived by his parents, Brent and Rosalie Whicker, Mead; and two sisters, Lisa Foley and Jeri Whicker, both of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Kathleen Fleming Spokane

No service will be held for Kathleen G. Fleming, 81, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fleming, who was born in Stevensville, Mont., died Sunday.

She worked as a licensed practical nurse in Spokane-area nursing homes, and had lived in Spokane for 35 years.

She is survived by two sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Fern Klintworth Spokane

Service for Fern G. Klintworth, 91, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Avilla, Mo., Mrs. Klintworth died Friday.

She moved to Spokane 10 years ago from Chewelah and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Kenneth Klintworth, died in 1989.

She is survived by one daughter, Billie Piercy of Somerset, Calif.

Vladimir Kalina Post Falls

Memorial service for Vladimir J. Kalina, 58, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Post Falls Friends Church. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kalina, who was born in Chicago, died Monday following an extended illness. He grew up in Illinois and served in the Army for two years.

He lived in Berwyn, Ill., where he began his career as a typographer. He moved to North Idaho in 1973 and settled in Post Falls in 1978.

Mr. Kalina was employed as a typographer for The SpokesmanReview for 21 years. He was an avid ham radio operator and a member of the North Idaho Amateur Radio Society.

He played the classical string bass and piano and had played in several dance bands. He was a member of the Musicians Union and the Post Falls Friends Church.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie; and his mother, Marie Kalina of Coeur d’Alene.

Julius Guthmiller Kellogg

Memorial service for Julius A. “Joe” Guthmiller, 75, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the American Lutheran Church, Kellogg.

Mr. Guthmiller, who was born in South Dakota, died Monday.

He moved to the area in 1948 and was a painter and welder for the Bunker Hill Co. for 33 years. He retired in 1981. Mr. Guthmiller was a member of the Bunker Hill 20-year Club and the American Lutheran Church.

He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed his family. He also enjoyed making furniture. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Fern; two sons, Ray Guthmiller of Smelterville, Idaho, and Randy Guthmiller of Orwell, Ohio; a daughter, Janice Lemieux of Kellogg; two sisters, Alvina Rempfer and Lillian Mettler, both of South Dakota; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert Redding Chattaroy

Service for Robert C. Redding, 61, is set for 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace Cemetery.

Mr. Redding, who was born in Brawley, Calif., died Monday.

He was a service technician for Montgomery Ward for 22 years and had lived in Chattaroy for more than 24 years.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Redding is survived by his wife, Shirley Redding; two sons, Steve Redding of Colbert and Mark Redding of New York; two daughters, Pam Gorman of Missoula and Denise Atabelo of Coulee Dam; one sister, Betty Warfield of San Diego; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Union Gospel Mission.

Ivan Yake Spokane

Graveside service for Ivan K. Yake, 43, was Wednesday at Meyers Falls Cemetery in Kettle Falls, Wash. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Yake drowned Friday in a boating accident on Black Lake. He was born in Chewelah, Wash.

He graduated from high school in Kettle Falls in 1970 and worked for Brauner Lumber and Matney Lumber.

He also worked as a cabinetmaker and installer in Spokane and had worked for Lamb-Weston in Connell, Wash., since 1981. He moved to Spokane from Connell 1 years ago.

He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Yake is survived by his wife, Patty Yake; two daughters, April Yake of Connell and Deborah Yake of Spokane; two sons, Edward and Ivan Yake, both of Spokane; one stepdaughter, Marsha Bowman of Spokane; three brothers, Tom Yake of Kettle Falls, Cory Yake of Bellingham and Richard Yake of Colville; one sister, Chris Bryant of Medical Lake; his mother and stepfather, Darlene and Sam Eason of Kettle Falls; and his father and stepmother, Clyde and Sarah Yake of Oceanside, Calif.

Michael Evers Frenchtown, Mont.

Memorial service for Michael Stanley Evers, 43, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. A memorial service was also held Wednesday in Missoula.

Mr. Evers, a former Spokane resident, died last Thursday. He was born in Spokane and graduated from West Valley High School.

He served three tours of duty in the Navy during the Vietnam War and returned to Spokane after his discharge and was a propane salesman.

He moved to Frenchtown in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; his parents, Stanley and Billie Evers of Spokane; one son, Jeff Evers of Spokane; one daughter, Jodi Evers, at home; two sisters, Melanie Riggin of Spokane and Shari Kennedy-Montana of Missoula; and one grandson.

Wilma Dow Spokane

Private cremation service was held for Wilma K. Dow, 81.

Mrs. Dow, who was born in Wallace, died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane for more than 40 years and was a waitress at many restaurants, including The RockA-Way and the Coach House.

She is survived by one daughter, Toni Woods of Forest Park, Ill.; two sisters, Letha Curtis of Pomeroy, Wash., and Vera Howell of Spokane; five grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

Lillian M. Dusterhoft Spokane

Service for Lillian M. Dusterhoft, 84, is planned for 4:30 p.m. Friday at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Born in Newark, Ill., Mrs. Dusterhoft, died Saturday.

She was a homemaker and had lived in San Diego before she moved to Spokane 12 years ago.

Her husband, Stephen Dusterhoft, died in 1988.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Olsen of Spokane; three grandsons and three greatgrandchildren.
