Rohde Gets Second In Sunriver Open

Jeff Coston shot a 3-under-par 69 Wednesday and coasted to a sevenstroke victory in the Sunriver Oregon Open golf tournament in Sunriver, Ore.

The 39-year-old teaching pro from Blaine, Wash., held a five-shot lead entering the final round on the Sunriver Resort’s wind-swept North Woodlands course.

Coston finished 54 holes at 11-under 205 and earned $10,500 of a $74,000 purse.

Mark Rohde and Valley View GC could get no closer than four shots of Coston and settled for second place with a 71 for 212. He won $6,650.

Clint Wallman of Spokane’s Birdies Golf Center, was third at 214 after a 70 and won $4,550.

Those were the lone players to break par after three days of gusty winds sent most players’ scores soaring.He especially liked the finish, which saw him make birdies on the last four holes of 6,880-yard course.Rohde was within four with four holes to play but then Coston took off.

Dan Koesters of the University of Idaho GC finished tied for seventh at 218 after a final-round 76 and won $2,257.50. Mark Gardner of The Creek at Qualchan shot a 74 for 212 total to win $1,960.

Legion baseball

Jeremy Nesbitt went 3 for 3 and had the game-winning hit in a two-run sixth inning as Spokane Athletic Supply edged Scott’s 8-7 in an American Legion baseball game played at Central Valley.

Erik Eigenhuis has two doubles for the winners as SAS improved to 8-1.

Andy Furlott pitched a five-hitter as Olympic Sports shut out PAC, 3-0, at Al K. Jackson Field. He struck out nine. Brett Haiar and Brad Nollmeyer had RBI hits.

PAC fell again, this time to Maxwell House, 17-11, at Jackson Field. Justin Williams went 5 for 6, including two doubles, a triple and a home run and scored five runs. for the winners.

The host Pullman Patriots (6-2) swept a doubleheader from East Valley Boosters 9-1 and 11-1.

In the first game, Scott Hayden pitched the distance, giving up four hits, striking out four and walking two to get the win. Teammate Fletcher Rohman went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

In the second game, Tom Gmelch pitched six innings to get the win. Adam Miller had a two-run triple and a tworun double for the winners.

East Valley fell to 2-6.
