Circus Coming To Post Falls, Cheney

Joe Ehrbar Correspondent

Like the elephants it employs, the Culpepper and Merriweather Great Combined Circus is part of an endangered breed. Slick, big-top productions have disappeared.

However, a few circuses like the Culpepper Merriweather show continue to roam the country and bring the big top to small towns.

Performed in just one ring under one tent, the circus, otherwise known as a “mud show,” embodies all the favorite, traditional circus events.

The eight Post Falls and two

Cheney performances will feature soaring aerialists on the trapeze, various acrobats (including animals), jugglers, a frolicking clown, a tightrope bike rider and lots of animal tricks.

The circus stops in Post Falls, next to Post Falls Mazda, Wednesday through July 8, and in Cheney on Tuesday, at Presley Drive and Highway 904.

Showtimes for the Wednesday, Thursday and July 7 shows are 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the circus plays at 2 and 4 p.m.

Advance tickets, $5 for adults and children, are available in Post Falls at Les Schwab, the Post Falls Tribune, Spencer’s IGA and the Chamber of Commerce. In Coeur d’Alene, tickets are available at Super 1 Foods.

Tickets at the gate are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 2-14.
