‘Brady Bunch’ Stays At No. 1

Dan Webster Staff Writer

Those Bradys have “Just Cause” to boast because they’re looking like “Heavyweights” at the box office.

True, that may make them “The Hunted” among Hollywood’s success-mongers, but it relegates the rest of the pack to - and you knew this was coming, right? - “The Walking Dead.”

OK, enough punishment. The straight news is that “The Brady Bunch Movie” maintained its No. 1 spot at the box office for the second straight week, holding off both its continued competition as well as the week’s major premieres.

According to figures compiled by Exhibitor Relations Co. and Entertainment Data Inc., “Brady Bunch” earned $8.4 million (for a two-week total of $25.6 million).

Just behind, “Just Cause” earned $6.6 million and “Heavyweights” took in $3.8 million.

“The Hunted” led the week’s premieres with a $2.7 million take, its No. 5 finish only slightly better than the Vietnam film “The Walking Dead” (No. 9, $2.32 million).

Oscar-nominated films still doing well include “Pulp Fiction” (No. 7, $2.38 million, $82.8 million in 20 weeks) and, two weeks into its re-release, “Forrest Gump” (No. 8, $2.36 million, $306.7 million total).

Chief among the Oscar anemics are “Quiz Show” (No. 19, $511,816, $23.7, 24 weeks) and “The Shawshank Redemption” (No. 13, $1.7 million, $18.6 million, 23 weeks).
