Man Admits Lying About Attack By Fire

A Post Falls man confessed Thursday that he lied to officers about a man trying to light him on fire, sheriff’s officials said.

Wilmer Lundeen Jr, 35, told Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies that a masked man with a gun forced him to pour gasoline on himself Wednesday morning. Lundeen told the officers that the man then flicked a lighter at him.

Lt. Ben Wolfinger said officers were looking into the case Thursday when they noticed inconsistencies in Lundeen’s account. Wolfinger said Lundeen then admitted fabricating the whole story.

Wolfinger said the department will not pursue charges against Lundeen for filing a false police report. They have instead referred the matter to the Department of Health and Welfare, Mental Health Services.
