At Las Vegas, Tim Grgurich, who was brought in to salvage the troubled UNLV basketball program, reportedly is on his way out after coaching only seven games during a tumultuous season.

UNLV has scheduled a news conference today amid reports Grgurich will step down as the Runnin’ Rebels coach without completing his first year.

Injuries to the Denver Nuggets have given former University of Washington basketball star Eldridge Recasner a chance at the big leagues. He has been playing with the Yakima Sun Kings of the Continental Basketball Association.

Robert Pack will join LaPhonso Ellis and Reggie Slater on the injured list.

At Bay Minette, Ala., a junior college basketball player died after collapsing on the court during a tournament game.

Ernest Pettway of Faulker State crumpled to the court with 11:19 remaining in the first half in a game against Northwest-Shoals. He died a short time later at North Baldwin Hospital.
