Sheriff Wants Rescue Funds

Associated Press

Members of the Latah Search and Rescue Council say they are doing just fine managing their own budget.

But Latah County Sheriff Joe Overstreet wants the council’s funding in his care.

Overstreet, who has made previous attempts to control the council’s funding, said he will make another effort during the upcoming budget requests.

“By Idaho code, Search and Rescue can only be conducted under the sheriff,” Overstreet said.

The disaster services provision of the code says the sheriff is the official responsible for coordination of all search and rescue operations in his jurisdiction.
