Deputies Use Cpr To Save Baby’s Life

From Staff And Wire Reports

Two sergeants from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department saved the life of an 11-month-old boy after the infant’s parents flagged down a department vehicle in Hayden.

“They jumped out of the car with the baby in their arms,” said Sgt. Richard White. “He was just hanging there like a rag doll. It scared the blazes out of me because he wasn’t breathing.”

White placed the infant on the hood of his car and started CPR after calling central dispatch for assistance Saturday.

First to respond was Sheriff’s Sgt. K.F. Sopher, who rushed White and the baby to Kootenai Medical Center. Christopher began breathing en route to the hospital and was monitored along the way by Kootenai County paramedic Jack Lawlor.

Christopher was delivered to the emergency room at 4:36 p.m. and was admitted to the hospital in good condition. Physicians had not determined what caused the child to stop breathing.
