Williams May Be Released

Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams should be discharged from a Takoma Park, Md., hospital by Wednesday, school officials said.

Williams was expected to leave Washington Adventist Hospital today or Wednesday, at least a week after he was admitted with pneumonia on Feb. 29.

However, Williams won’t be well enough to coach the Terps in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament, which begins Thursday in Greensboro, N.C., school officials said.

Williams’ pneumonia developed from a case of the flu.

Brent Barry, whose 67 points in two games helped Oregon State sweep visiting Stanford and California, was named Pacific-10 Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week.

University of Montana senior center Matt Kempfert has been selected as the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week.
