Lc’s Russell Heads All-Iel Team

Lake City basketball player Brian Russell was named the Inland Empire League most valuable player in a vote of the coaches Wednesday.

Russell, a 6-foot, 3-inch senior post, averaged 18.8 points and 9.5 rebounds to lead the Timberwolves to a regional title and berth to state.

The coaches also named first and second all-league teams. Named to the first team were; Tim Roberts, 5-11, sr., guard, Post Falls; Ryan Baerlocher, 6-3, sr., wing, Lewiston; Brian Trenholm, 6-5, sr., post, Sandpoint; Mike McLean, 6-1, sr., wing, Post Falls; and Dallas Spielman, 6-1, sr., guard, Sandpoint.

Named to the second team were Chris Pederson, 6-0, sr., guard, Coeur d’ Alene; Craig Gilchrist, 6-4, sr., post, Lewiston; Bryan Kelly, 6-1, sr., guard, Lake City; Ryan Edmonds, 5-11, sr., guard, Post Falls; and Darick Pope, 6-6, sr., post, Post Falls.

Newcomers of the year, McLean and Jesse Hoorelbeke, 6-1, jr., guard, Coeur d’ Alene . Most improved player Scott Hoover, 6-5, jr., wing, Lake City.
