Three Fires Cause Minor Damage Around Valley Monday

A Dumpster fire caused about $100 worth of damage early Monday morning. No one was seen near the Dumpster behind Sewing Studio, 1519 N. Pines. The cause of the fire is not known.

And on Monday afternoon, a former volunteer firefighter had to put out a fire at his home.

Leigh Tickner, who lives in the 3100 block of North Coleman, had just moved a laundry hamper away from a furnace at about 2 p.m.

The hamper caught on fire, setting off a smoke detector.

Tickner dragged the burning items outside and put the fire out with a hose before fire crews arrived.

The fire caused about $500 worth of damage, inspectors said.

Also Monday afternoon, two boys were accused of starting a trash can fire at Brown’s Park at 32nd and Pines.

Lonnie Harris, a man who lives near the park, said he saw the boys throw something into the garbage can and light a fire. Olson said they started the fire with a lighter and told him they were bored.
