Tibetan Refugees Begin March On Dehli
About 500 Tibetan refugees began walking from their northern India headquarters to New Delhi on Friday, hoping to step up pressure on China for Tibet’s independence.
The planned 440-mile march reflected growing impatience by a younger generation of Tibetans with the Dalai Lama, Tibet’s spiritual leader, whose offer to compromise on complete independence has failed to win comparable concessions from Beijing. China took over the country in 1951.
