Fcc Chief Calls For Nonviolent TV

Compiled From Wire Services

Broadcasters should be required to provide a minimum amount of nonviolent children’s programming, says Reed E. Hunt, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.

An FCC rule-making proceeding on the issue probably will begin within months, Hunt said Friday.

He said commercial broadcasters that provide educational and familyoriented programming draw lower ratings than stations with more violent shows.
