Forest Genetics Authority To Speak In Post Falls

The use of new technology to improve the health of Inland Northwest forests will be the subject of a March 16 meeting at Templin’s Resort in Post Falls.

Techniques such as gene mapping will be discussed at the annual meeting of the Inland Empire Tree Improvement Cooperative. Reinhard Stettler, professor of forest genetics at the University of Washington, will give the keynote address at 8:35 a.m. Stettler has studied forestry around the world. He is best known in the Northwest for working to make cottonwoods grow faster and produce more wood fiber.

The meeting is open to the public. A $50 registration fee includes lunch and handouts.
