From Staff Reports

Four people were injured when a car rolled and skidded off the road south of Ford, Wash., on Saturday morning.

Driver Raymond M. Peone, 20, of Ford, was thrown from a 1979 Mercury after speeding down state Highway 231, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Peone was flown to Deaconess Medical Center where he is in critical condition with face, skull and lung injuries. The car was totalled.

Three passengers in the car also were injured and were treated at Deaconess and released.

Merle A. Andrew, 19, of Wellpinit, suffered cuts. Brian L. Boyd, 19, of Wellpinit, suffered cuts, and sore ribs and legs. Halzy Abrahamson, 15, might have broken his arm and shoulder, the WSP reported.

Only Andrew was wearing a seat belt.

Peone lost control of the car about 8:30 a.m. The Mercury rolled and slid on its top before coming to a rest on the right side of the highway, the WSP reported.

The WSP said alcohol might have been a factor in the accident.
